Dlu pernah ada kejadian gempa di aceh pada tahun 2004 di iringi dengan tsunami , tetapi gempa tersebut sekarang muncul kembali di wilayah aceh dan sekitarnya, Gempa saat ini tidak di iringi dengan tsunami.Gempa tersebut berkekuatan sekitar 8,9 skala richter dan melanda wilayah aceh, sumatera utara, bengkulu, lampung dan sumbar pada hari rabu tanggal 11 april 2012 sekitar pukul 15:38 WIB. Berdasarkan data BMKG, wilayah bencana terletak di sekitar pulau simelue (aceh) dengan kedalaman sekitar 10 KM. Para pemerintah meminta supaya masyarakat lebih hati-hati, karena kemungkinan besar akan terjadi tsunami kembali seperti pada tahun 2004.
